Topic: Put my LOF back on Posted: 16 May 2007 at 1:47pm |
Disclaimer: No pics yet.
As I mentioned at the Red Rocks picnic, I had taken my LOF off because it keep hitting on the rear bumper cover and I had to constantly retape it. I had it mounted in between the tailgate cladding and the tailgate, along the bottom.
I took Chris' suggestion (I think it was him, it might have been JR) and mounted it on the top lip of the rear bumper cover. Ironically, this was same piece that it was hitting when I had it installed before. I forgot to check to see if the tailgate hits it now...boy I hope it doesn't. But I digress...
So I mount it up, check that it works when the lights are on and call it done...until I am driving to work the next day and had an ephany - it was mounted "upside down" so the blinkers are blinking for the wrong side! D'oh!
After several trips to different stores to get the parts and a new (almost as crappy as my last one) soldering iron, I now have it wired up correctly.
I cut the stock 4 pin connector off and soldered on two new 4 pin connectors. One is wired like the stock connecter and one is wired "backwards". Backwards being that I swaped the wires for the left and right so that when it's mounted "upside down" like it is now, the blinkers work for the correct side.
A benefit for the "patch" cable used to plug the LOF into the back of the trailer connector, is that I can use the cover that would normally be hanging loose to cover up the extra 4 pin connector. That might be a little hard to envision, but maybe I'll get a few pics uploaded before too long.
Peace out,
-Joe
